Your pearls will come alive by wearing them as much as possible
on your skin. Skin fat protects the pearl and raises the brilliance,
as if the pearl had been polished. You may always rub them in
with mineral or baby oil. Unfortunately substances are sometimes
absorbed reducing pearl brilliance. Take care therefore with
acids, ammonium, bleach, chemicals, etc., but also with transpiration,
cosmetics, hair dye and perfume!
Avoid extreme temperatures.
Rubbing pearls from time to time with a humid cloth (only with
water, not with chemicals!) will make them shine as they did
initially.
Never immerse them in water, as the string absorbs the humidity,
which may cause discoloration at the core. Therefore it is advisable
to have your pearl necklace retied regularly and to refrain
from storing it away from the outside air. Pearls are just like
us: they need to breathe. |
